Hello, my name is Kolby.

In 2017, I began learning welding and realized right away that I wish I had started sooner.  I felt new rewarding sensations from working with my hands and problem solving challenges that come with the world metal fabrication.  Every day presented something new with different opportunities to help others.  I also felt that I was on the right path for maybe the first time ever, at 32 years old.

Approximately ⅓ of my customers express interest in welding, and I always take the time to encourage them to try.  If it fits you, it can be incredibly rewarding and it can grow vast confidence.

“If you can imagine it, you can make it.”

I love the diversity of work that I’ve been presented with as well as the walks of life that I get to encounter.  From repairing cherished heirlooms, to structural fire escapes, to behind of the scenes of movie making.

See below for WILDWOOD…

In 2022, I began working for Laika Studios in the Mechanical Fabrication department making items that are both visible in the film and others that provide the “skeleton” for what is seen. I also learned metal casting, which I love doing.

This was such a rewarding experience being surrounded by so many creative people and it taught me that it truly take an army to make an epic film. In 2005, When Laika started in Hillsboro, if you’d have told me I’d get to be working there helping to make a movie, I’d have kissed ya!

Fingers crossed for an Academy Award nom for best welder…
